The Heart of Our Home

Barney hasn’t always been the “perfect” boy — but he’s my boy. He’s older now, with a little more gray around the muzzle, but he still surprises me (and drives me crazy!) with his mischievous tricks. Just the other day, he scaled a 6 ft cinder block wall just because he can. That’s Barney — my crazy, lovable, one-of-a-kind companion.

How Our Story Began

Barney’s story started at the Socorro Animal Shelter in New Mexico. I first met him during a fundraiser tour. One look into those soulful eyes, and I was smitten. I told myself I’d just foster him — but within days, I was signing the adoption papers. He’s been with me ever since, and he continues to inspire everything I do.

A Love That Lasts

Barney even had a long-time girlfriend, Filly, who was adopted from the same shelter under the exact same circumstances. She was everything you’d dream of in a dog: sweet, gentle, loyal, and absolutely beautiful. We both adored her. When she passed in 2024 at the age of 14, my heart broke. While searching for an urn to keep her ashes close to me, the idea for FurEver & After was born. I envisioned a place where pet families could easily find thoughtful, practical, and meaningful products for every stage of their journey together. This business truly is a labor of love.

The Healing Power of Pets

Then there was Otis, my loyal cat who carried me through one of the hardest chapters of my life. During my cancer treatments, Otis never left my side. His quiet companionship, comfort, and unconditional love gave me strength on days when I needed it most. He will always hold a very special place in my heart and is a big part of why I believe so deeply in the healing bond we share with our pets.

Unexpected Companions

Of course, Barney isn't my only sidekick. There’s Mopsie, my sweet girl that I couldn’t leave behind when I saw her being sold out of the back of a pickup truck in a Walmart parking lot in Greeley, CO. I didn’t think I could afford her at the time, but I had $20 in my purse, made an offer, and the lady accepted. Fourteen years later, Mopsie is still my love and constant companion — and the best $20 I ever spent.

The Comedian of the House

And then there’s Sam, my big-personality orange kitty. Sam makes me laugh every day with his antics. He insists on meowing to go outside just to use the bathroom. Thanks to him, scooping litter is a thing of the past!

A Family of Love

Together, Barney, Mopsie, and Sam keep me company as I work on FurEver & After. They remind me why I started this journey in the first place: to honor the love we share with our pets, through every season of life.
